SmartMed launches SmartMed Hospital release 3.5

SmartMed launches SmartMed Hospital release 3.5
The developments of our solutions have not been standing still recently. We have now released release 3.5 for the SmartMed Hospital application. We explain the positive consequences of this release for the end user of SmartMed Hospital.

Hospital release 3.5

The main changes in release 3.5 are in the area of MFAs and lab value integration.

MFBs

Interaction medication monitoring is based on MFBs (Medical Pharmaceutical Decision Rules). Medical Pharmaceutical Decision Rules can combine multiple patient characteristics (e.g. contraindications and other patient related data) to generate and display only relevant pharmacovigilance alerts to the user. MFAs consist of protocols that are run through with a yes/no answer or a value. These answers and/or values determine the next part of the protocol to be run, until a final outcome is known. In case of interactions, current and historical medication orders are looked at to determine if there is an interaction.

SmartMed has implemented the MFB's in a 'rules engine'. This has the advantage that it offers flexibility to implement other MFB's and clinical rules.

Lab value integration

In release 3.5, it is possible to make lab values available in SmartMed via HL7 integration. In the OBR segment, lab values can be included in ADT messages. SmartMed receives this data and it can be used for, among other things, communicating lab values via discharge prescriptions to community pharmacists. The data is sent from a source system, for example an electronic patient record. Per value, the dataset contains: a description, a date, a value, the method and comments. Via HL7 integration, new values can be created, old values removed and existing values corrected.
